The divorce of former Korean golden couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, AKA 'Song-Song couple', continues to make headlines. At SBS entertainment program "Midnight" on July 2, a divorce attorney claimed that the divorce is unusual and Song Joong Ki was trying to send a message to Song Hye Kyo.
Lawyer Kim Nam Gook said Song Joong Ki's high-profile divorce announcement is unusual, "It's very unusual for a celebrity to announce their position directly right after filing an application for divorce settlement. For famous celebrities who are going through a divorce, they usually ask the press to keep it a secret until they reach an agreement."
Song Joong Ki made an official announcement to the public less than a day after he applied for divorce. The lawyer claimed that Song Joong Ki was trying to push Song Hye Kyo for reaching a settlement, "The fact that Song Joong Ki announced the news of his divorce only a day after officially filing his papers means that he wants Song Hye Kyo’s side to take a more active part in reaching a settlement."
In addition, a veteran reporter Kim Dae Oh in the entertainment industry said the couple have difference stances, "I believe there is a small difference in their stance. Song Joong Ki announced his statement through his lawyer. Song Hye Kyo later announcer her statement through her agency."
"It can be seen that Song Joong Ki was the one who initiated the divorce procedure." The reporter continued.
Previously, Korean media 'Channel A' claimed that on June 26, Song Joong Ki submitted the application for divorce through his lawyer without discussing with his wife Song Hye Kyo, "the divorce settlement was filed without letting Song Hye Kyo know beforehand."
Following Song Joong Ki's move, Song Hye Kyo just confirmed their ending marriage through her agency UAA Korea, and explained, "The reason was because of their differences in personality. The two were unable to overcome their differences, which led to this decision."
Song Joong Ki has decided to take a short break without attending any official events until early July when he will begin filming sci-fiction film "Lightning Ship".
Meanwhile, Song Hye-Kyo has decided not to appear in the new legal drama "Hyena" which she had been confirmed to star in.
