Prince Charles is readying to become the King of England. As he is celebrating his 50th year as the Prince of Wales this week, the future ruler has lined up over 20 engagements in Wales to further boost his role as the next in line to the throne.

The royal and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are set to visit different charities and attend various events to mark his 50th anniversary during Wales Week. Some royal watchers may still recall how Prince Charles held the hand of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, and accepted his oath to be her "liege man of life and limb" during his investiture as the Prince of Wales and the heir to the throne on July 1, 1969, per Telegraph.

He was 20 at that time of the ceremony held in Caernarfon Castle. Several years before that, Queen Elizabeth recorded a message that she has planned on making a young Charles the Prince of Wales.

"It was one of the greatest days of my life, and of course, it was made the more extraordinary because of what was happening," a longtime friend of Prince Charles, Sir Nicholas Soames, said during the investiture, per BBC.  "Here was the creation of the Prince of Wales in the most wonderful and moving ceremony in that magnificent castle."

Five decades later, however, there are no big events planned at Caernarfon to celebrate the Prince of Wales. Instead, Prince Charles will be quite busy attending to his royal duties, as any future King of England would.

Among the meetings that Prince Charles and Camilla will be going to this week include a visit to the Prince's Trust Call Center to meet the people running the charity overseeing the welfare of underprivileged children in Britain. The Royals are also to award the winners of the British Horse Loggers Woodland Management Award and talk with horse loggers in the area.

Prince Charles and Camilla will also be set to drop by the events at Victoria Park, the Carmarthen Market, the Llandovery Lunch Club, and the Patti Pavilion. The royal couple will also visit the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and the Morriston Tabernacle Chapel.

Royal insiders say, however, that even before Prince Charles commemorated his 50th year as the Prince of Wales, he has assumed some of Queen Elizabeth's duties. According to Daily Express, Prince Charles has had meetings with the Duchy of Lancaster at Clarence House to discuss the income of the sovereign since he and his wife will be moving into the Buckingham Palace when he becomes the King.
