There are rumors among royal insiders claiming that Queen Elizabeth II is going to retire soon. Reasons for her retirement vary from sources, but it has nevertheless caused quite an alarm among the royals and people who deeply follow tradition.
One particular rumor has gained attention in the past couple of months. According to this rumor, the Queen will eventually retire from the throne once her husband, Prince Philip, passes away. The two royals are well within their 90's, and the subject of death is almost somewhat inevitable for the two of them. The Queen is 93 years old, while Prince Philip is 98 years old.
The rumor first gained attention when royal expert Duncan Larcombe told Yahoo's Royal Box, "A lot of people think that perhaps she might stand down once her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh passes away."
While this is certainly a possibility, no one knows when the Queen will decide to retire, except for the Queen herself. The 93-year-old Queen now stands as the oldest and longest serving monarch in the entire history of the British Empire. As for Prince Philip, he retired from his royal duties in 2017. He now spends most of his time at the Sandringham Estate located in Norfolk. Nevertheless, the Prince is always a staple at many royal events.
The rumor once again gained attention during the recent Trooping of Colour when the Prince was not able to attend. Reasons for his absence was not reported, although there are some speculations claiming that it might be due to the frail state of his health. During the event, people have commented that the Queen looked quite lonely without the Prince by her side in the carriage.
Several people have noticed how lonely the Queen was during the Trooping of Colour. This certainly shows just how she loves her husband, and how committed she is to the duties that were bestowed to her. Even at the ripe age of 93, the Queen still attends all royal duties. Despite the fact that Prince Philip retired his royal duties way back in 2017, the Queen continues to carry on with her responsibilities.
Royal biographer Angela Levin said, "I think she made this pledge that she would serve her country until she died and she's just going to keep it. She looks amazingly healthy; she's very articulate, she's very energetic, she stands up for an hour."
