The longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, reportedly keeps a top secret diary that is off limits to everyone, from the staff to the other royals under her roof. Nobody is allowed to hold or read the Queen's personal diary, with the sole exception of her closest friend who also happens to be her esteemed consort, Prince Philip.
In today's digital world, social networking sites have become an alternative for journals or diaries. However, along with a hundred other traditions, the Queen has faithfully stuck to this one.
Apparently, the monarch had developed a love for filling in journals in her teenage years. She had seen her own father write tirelessly in his own journal back in the day, and it seems that habit has rubbed off on her to this very day.
Queen Elizabeth reportedly writes in her diary every single night, about 15 minutes before she goes to bed. According to royal experts, she writes in detail about how her day went. No detail is apparently too small as she writes down everyone she met and talked to on that day and a little bit of the conversation they had.
The Queen also details about the places she goes to, whether it be just a casual stroll around Buckingham Palace or her international diplomatic trips to Australia, New Zealand, and the like. Aside from that, she also inks in most of her personal thoughts and reflections in this secret diary.
Sources have also revealed that the Queen asks all staff members in her room to leave immediately when she starts writing in an entry. She expresses her wish to be alone when she does this routine and instructs personnel not to dare interrupt, unless it was a matter of world-shattering importance, like a nuclear war or an attempt on her life.
She is very private and secretive when it comes to her journal and ensures no one who should not have their hands on it will ever read it. In fact, she takes some precautionary measures in order to guarantee her privacy will never be breached. She burns the blotting paper she uses when she writes in journal, in order to avoid busybodies trying to decipher her handwriting in reverse.
However, despite all the extensive measures she takes to keep people out of her private diary, she willingly hands it over to her husband from time to time for him to read. They also reportedly talk about the contents and reflections contained in the diary. There is no doubt that Prince Philip knows his wife and queen's secrets as though she was easily an open book to him.
