Queen Elizabeth was even more concern when her grandsons had reached their marrying age, after the heartaches and scandal that happened when Prince Charles married Princess Diana. When the time came for the Queen to have a personal attachment to a possible wife or girlfriend to either Prince William and Prince Harry, she did make sure first that the lady is "the one."

Every royal correspondent and biographer would have already told the story of the relationship timeline of Prince William and Kate Middleton, especially when they were still at the University of St. Andrews. They were literally "college sweethearts" and just like the ordinary people who went to college with their boyfriends; they also shared a house along with two friends.

As early as 2004, the royal couple was already an item, as they were photographed together on a ski vacation. The pretty and simple, sporty girl from the small village of Bucklebury has captured the heart of the young Prince William until they graduated in 2005 and even as they went on their careers. Kate Middleton went back to London to help with her parent's company while Prince William started on his military training in Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England.

Kate Middleton was still there to attend Prince William's graduation in 2006, and as he continues another course on his military training, his girlfriend is already coming close to being accepted to the British Royal Family. Middleton accompanied Prince William at the wedding of William's stepsister, Laura Parker Bowles.

There are already many chances that the Queen would have gotten to know more about her future granddaughter- in- law; however, she might have felt that it was not the right time yet. Her instincts came true when Prince William and Kate Middleton broke up in the first quarter of 2007.

The Queen gave a warning to Prince William and has said to give the relationship "all or nothing" because of an underlying uncertain between the two couple. Prince Philip, his grandfather, also shared the same advice and made Prince William decide once and for all if he chooses Kate Middleton to be his wife since the young royal has already promised to get married to her twice and didn't do it.

According to royal expert and biographer Katie Nicholl, the story of how Prince William "pleaded" to get back with Kate Middleton was already detailed on her book Kate: The Future Queen. From then on, Prince William and Kate Middleton were inseparable until November of 2010 when they officially announced their engagement.

On their engagement interview, Kate Middleton revealed that she first met the Queen at Peter and Autumn Phillips wedding in 2008 and described her as being friendly. The same description the Duchess of Cambridge said when she went on an away-day to Leicester. At that time, Prince William was not there, and Queen Elizabeth II made sure that her granddaughter-in-law was happy and thought that she was being cared of at that moment.
