The Division 2 is releasing its first major content update and it's coming very soon. The first free episode of its Year 1 content plan called DC Outskirts: Expeditions will roll out on July 23 for Year 1 Pass holders and on July 30 for all players.
As a response to constant fan requests, the game is also adding matchmaking for raids. This should eliminate having to assemble a full group of players manually for them to participate in a key piece of the game's content. However, it will only be available at a lower difficulty setting and will not offer players all of the available raid loot.
Operation Dark Hours raid will now have matchmaking, originally released months ago. The raid, which can accommodate eight players, will have players working together to defeat Black Tusk forces taking over the Washington National Airport.
According to Ubisoft, matchmaking may only be available for the new mode called "Discovery."
"The new Discovery Difficulty, along with its corresponding matchmaking option, will allow more players to experience The Division 2 in its entirety," Ubisoft wrote in its press release. "While Operation Dark Hours Exotic loot remains exclusive to the Normal difficulty, Agents playing the Discovery Difficulty can expect a variety of great rewards, while training for the Normal Difficulty."
Going back to Expeditions, the release will be divided into two main content types: the main story missions, and the new Expeditions. In the main story, players will continue where the campaign ended and send agents to retrieve a lost convoy. There are two new missions for that: the Manning National Zoo, where you have to defeat Emeline Shaw, and Camp White Oak, where President Ellis can be found.
There are three different wings to Expeditions that will be released on a weekly basis. If you finish all three, you will be granted access to an exclusive treasure room with new and rare weapons, as well as exotic gear. It will start at Kenly College where you will find answers as to what happened to a supply convoy.
The update should also give Year 1 Pass holders Classified Assignments, which are exclusive. You can find that in the NSA Site B13 and Central Aquarium.
This is just the first content drop of the three Ubisoft has planned for Year 1 of the game. In the fall, players will be taken to the Pentagon and sometime in 2020, the Coney Island.
