Rumored to be a beastly mobile phone with game-centric specifications, it's only natural that the Asus ROG Phone II is fueled up by a monster processor. And so Qualcomm obliged and unleashed just the perfect chipset in the Snapdragon 855 Plus that promises earth-shaking mobile gaming experience.
With the SD 855 Plus running the show, CNET said the ROG Phone II surely is an explosive contraption, where everything about the original chip will be pimped up. This applies to any other device that will get the chip, but the ROG Phone II will stand to benefit from boosted GPU capabilities of up to 15 percent.
On the CPU side, the upgrade will lead to a clock speed of 2.96GHz, perhaps a slight bump from the original Snapdragon 855's maximum humming of 2.84GHz but certainly remarkable for a pocketable device. In essence, the next mobile ROG installment from Asus will be given a desktop-class computing prowess.
"Snapdragon 855 Plus will raise the bar for elite gamers with the increase in CPU and GPU performance," Qualcomm was reported as saying, in explaining how both the ROG Phone II and the SD 855 Plus will alter the mobile gaming landscape.
In addition, the Snapdragon 855 Plus will fully support emerging technologies deemed as the wave of the future, such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual reality. Another cutting edge feature is 5G compatibility that will facilitate super-fast wireless connectivity.
It remains to be seen though if the superlative features mentioned will be stuffed with the Asus ROG Phone II right out of the box.
What is clear, according to WCCFTech, is that both the device and its powerhouse SD 855 Plus are engineered for optimal heat dissipation.
"The device dissipates heat through a copper heatsink and can even accommodate a cooling fan - which is a first of its kind for a mobile gadget," the report said.
For the most part, Asus has been silent on what exactly to expect with the ROG Phone II unboxing. But going by the last build seen in 2018, the Taiwan-based device maker is likely to step up from the banner specs of the original version. One would be the gorgeous AMOLED display panel of the first ROG phone that came with a screen refresh rate of 90Hz, which would mean buttery smooth screen animation and transition.
Asus could pick up from these specs and boost them a bit, or the company can simply stick with the already winning formula.
In any case, Asus has already announced that launch time for the Asus ROG II is happening on July 23, meaning everything about the device will be revealed a week from now.
