After confirming the show's return, The End of the F***ing the World Season 2 is now in the works. Channel 4 is now busy filming the second season, but it looks like it has a message for Netflix.
Things may be different for TEOTFW Season 2. The show is originally from Channel 4 and not an original Netflix content.
So, the network's content chief Ian Katz said they will be now differentiating the series as their production and not the streaming giant's show. Confusion arises as Netflix labels the series as Netflix Originals.
"Next time we'll run the whole series on the channel then there will be a conventional hold back of more than a year before people see it on Netflix," Katz said, per Deadline. "It really bugs me that people think that show is a Netflix show, I really want to reclaim ownership of it, it's absolutely a Channel 4 show."
The show's official Twitter page announced in August 2018 that TEOTFW Season 2 would be in the works. In another post by Netflix this March, it revealed the production had begun by sharing a snap of its official Episode 1 script. It also shared a photo of Jessica Barden returning at work to reprise her role as Alyssa.
The new season will continue to follow the story of the original comic series by the graphic novelist Charles Forsman. Despite its popularity, there were beliefs that the show would be canceled, per LADBible.
Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos even admitted they were shocked by how popular it became. He revealed the series didn't go well on linear TV in the UK. But when they released it on the streaming platform, it started to become a major hit in every country.
Although it has yet revealed what would happen in TEOTFW Season 2, Alex Lawther, who plays one of the lead roles James, told Digital Spy Barden wanted to see a first episode musical on the beach. If there would be a musical version of TEOTFW, Lawther enthusiastically said he would surely be up for it. Although he was not sure if the show's writer, Charlie Covell, would take their concept, they would try to "push that idea" as far as they could.
TEOTFW Season 2 would be out this year on Channel 4 in the UK. It would also be out in other regions on Netflix. Of course, the new episodes would also be seen on Netflix UK, but a year after it airs on TV.
