BLACKPINK is proving that they are the queens of youtube as they set a new record for their debut MV Boombayah. The MV recently became the first Kpop debut music video to reach 650 million views.
According to Soompi, BLACKPINK's achievement for Boombayah closely follows BTS' DNA MV which has 781,301,600 views to date as well as BLACKPINKs own DDU DU DDU DU, which now has 884,196,840 views and counting.
This milestone for Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose comes in time with setting a new record for having the most successful Kpop girl group world tour. BLACKPINK's Your Area World Tour which spanned North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia was reportedly attended by 300,000 concertgoers, surpassing Girls' Generation's record of 293,324 fans who attended their 3rd Japan Tour.
BLACKPINK's Your Area World Tour is also far from over because YG Entertainment is expected to add new dates to the tour this December. The Kpop superstars are expected to bring their hits Boombayah, DDU DDU DDU DU, As If Its Your Last, Whistle and Kill This Love to their Japanese fans.
For the meantime, BLACKPINK is expected to take a brief break from the concert tour after their three nights of sold-out shows at Bangkok's major venue, Impact Arena which holds a seating capacity of 11,000 people. The concert was originally slated for two nights but due to popular demand, one more night was added by organizers.
Apart from sold-out concerts and record-making music videos, BLACKPINK is also proving its mettle in the international scene after it picked up nominations at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.
Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose picked up two nominations, the first being Choice Song for DDU DU DDU DU. The second nod pits them against fellow Kpop idols BTS for the category of Choice International Artist, reported Business Times.
This is the second time that BTS and BLACKPINK will compete for the same category as the two groups were nominated for the same honor last year. BTS beat out BLACKPINK in 2018 and won the award for the second straight year. The BTS Army also took the win for Choice Fandom.
This year, BLINKs, BLACKPINK's official fandom will have their work cut out for them as they attempt to cut BTS' winning streak and prove girl power supreme. The 2019 Teen Choice Awards will happen on August 11 in Hermosa Beach, California.
