It's no secret that a sequel to Shazam! is already in development, thanks to its positive reviews and box office success. However, Zachary Levi says that the second film could begin production immediately. The Chuck star teased that Warner Bros. and DC already have big plans for Shazam 2. Interestingly, there is an odd reason why the follow-up to the comic book movie needs to be made "as soon as possible."
In Shazam!, Zachary Levi played the alter ego of a troubled teenager named Billy Batson. In the film, Billy is given superpowers by an ancient wizard that would make him the Champion of Eternity. Although Billy is just a teenager, he can summon his powers simply by calling out the wizard's name. Billy would later share these powers with his siblings, ensuring that his family can help him battle the evil Dr. Sivana.
But when can fans expect to see more of Shazam! and the Marvel Family? It could be sooner than you think. Zachary Levi recently made an appearance at the CCXP Cologne Convention in Germany where he admitted that he doesn't know everything about the second Shazam! film just yet. However, he did share that he is up for a major meeting about the sequel.
"I know that I'm gonna have a conversation with my bosses pretty soon about what the idea is and where we're going with the new movie, but all I really know is that New Line, our studio, and Warner Brothers, our parent studio, and DC, and our producers and executives and everybody who's involved in all of the decision making, they're all very happy with what we did," Levi said. "They want to do even better the second time around, and they are crafting a story right now as we speak about what that sequel is going to be."
So why is there such a rush to get the sequel done? Zachary Levi says they want to make sure the young stars still look like kids. "The only other thing I know is they want to make it as soon as possible because those kids are growing up like weeds, so if we don't do that in like the next two days, they're gonna be full-grown adults," he joked.
All kidding aside, fans are delighted to know that Shazam 2 will be happening soon. Stay tuned for more updates about the sequel.
