Two of the most talked-about scenes in Game of Thrones Season 8 are Arya's (Maisie Williams) move to kill the Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and Jamie's (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) decision to return to Cersei (Lena Headey). With all the criticisms they and the show per se have received, the stars tackled the issues surrounding the epic fantasy series' season finale at their last and final San Diego Comic-Con panel.
Despite celebrating the villain's death, it seemed to be a letdown for some fans. Some found the manner of the Night King's demise disappointing and lacking strategy, per Polygon.
Arya just sneaked in the Godswood and took him down by stabbing him with a Valyrian steel blade on the stomach while he was holding her on the throat. She was the only trained assassin at the House of Black and White in Braavos amongst them all.
Hence, Arya was the best choice to kill the Night King, no matter how anticlimactic it seemed. Some fans, who couldn't digest what happened, theorized Jon Snow (Kit Harington) asked Arya to find the leader of the undead and kill him, but Williams disagreed.
"She did that on her own. If we're gonna give credit to anyone, it's Melisandre (Carice van Houten)," she said at SDCC. "She knew what she had to do to put the mission in Arya's head when she's at her lowest point."
To recall, Melisandre talked to Arya when Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) died, saying he had "served his purpose" to protect her. This inspired Arya to find the Night King and do her thing to end the battle and save everyone.
Coster-Waldau, on the other hand, disagreed with the negative responses his character received about how Jamie's story ended in Game of Thrones Season 8. According to Independent, the 48-year-old star defended the final season, along with Conleth Hill, who played as Lord Varys.
Hill claimed the media led a hate campaign against the last and final season. Alternatively, Coster-Waldau said Jaime's demise was perfect.
Dying in the arms of someone he loved was the perfect death for Jaime. However, when SDCC fans disagreed with his statement, he cleared the manner of his death made sense to him, although it was just his opinion.
Despite the end, Game of Thrones Season 8 still receives criticisms and dislikes. But as Game of Thrones Prequel is now in the works, fans are now waiting how the show's backstory will play out.
