The results of the Teen Choice Awards 2019 haven't been announced yet but now, BLACKPINK is up for another international accolade as it picked up a nomination for MTV UK's Hot Summer Superstar award. The YG Entertainment artists were nominated alongside Big Hit Entertainment superstars BTS.
According to the announcement of MTV UK, two Kpop acts are now leading the voting with BTS taking on the top spot with 1.8 million votes. BLINKs, BLACKPINK's official fandom, are also hard at work as they near the 1.1 million mark. Following in the third spot is Lady Gaga with over 850,000 tweets and Ariana Grande with over 379,000 tweets.
Among other acts nominated for the honors are former winner Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Little Mix, along with 45 other acts that make up the top 50 slots. The voting, which is happening via Twitter requires fans to tweet the hashtag #MTVHottest, space, followed by the name of the artist they are supporting. Voting opened July 20 and will end promptly on August 19. Winners will be announced on August 24.
The total vote count for MTV Hottest Summer Superstar is currently at 4,945,244 which means the majority of the votes come from fans of BTS and BLACKPINK who are the only acts to break out of the 1 million tweet mark, according to the live voting stats.
Both Kpop groups are also vying for awards at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards where they are competing for the honor of Choice International Artist. BTS has the advantage in the category as they won the award for the past two years. However, BLACKPINK fans remain unfazed as they vote for their Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose to break the boy group's winning streak.
After recently dethroning Girls' Generation for the most attended concert tour for girl groups, BLACKPINK's Kill This Love has also re-emerged in the Top 20 of Youtube's Music Videos Chart, Headline Planet reported.
The former #1 hit by BLACKPINK re-enters the Top 20 chart and clocks in at #17 after it amassed an additional 14.3 million views from July 12-18. Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose were up by 6 percent and jumped 14 places from its former position.
Kill This Love is currently on its way to the 500 million views mark with 495,678,705 views as of this writing. The Kill This Love dance practice MV has also amassed over 146 million views from fans who want to learn the steps for the global megahit.
