Tesla has recently released a teaser photo of what appears to be the company's upcoming pickup model. Dubbed simply as the Tesla Pickup, it will one of the first electric pickup truck. Recently, a graphics artist released a render of the electric truck and it went viral on several social media platforms.
Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk said that the Tesla Pickup Truck will feature a "really futuristic-like cyberpunk Blade Runner design." While some may already have an idea of Tesla will tackle the design, Musk did not provide any more explanation and simply dismissed it by saying "it won't be for everyone."
Musk also revealed a teaser photo of the pickup. However, he did not elaborate what part of truck was that. The photo simply shows what appears to be a box with a Tesla logo and an illuminated line. Based on this vague teaser photo, a number of artists have rendered their own interpretation of what they think will be the appearance of the Tesla Pickup once it hits the market.
Musk made headlines last month when he claimed that the Tesla Pickup will be a "better truck than a Ford F-150 in terms of truck-like functionality and be a better sports car than a standard Porsche 911."
It is important to note here that Tesla is poking one of the biggest truck maker of all time, Ford. The Ford F-150 is widely considered as America's most favorite truck, and has been the best-selling pickup truck for several consecutive years. Even its closest rivals from Ram and Chevrolet pale in comparison to the F-150. Musk is setting the bar high for his own Tesla Pickup.
Tesla is rattling quite a lot of cages with its proposed entry into the pickup segment. Ford has a grip of this particular segment of the market and will not be willing to be pushed aside by an electric pickup.
A pickup truck is usually known for their brute force. And while Tesla cars do have this feature, their reliability are somewhat questionable at best. For electric cars, mileage is always a big issue and Tesla needs to address this if it want to make it big in the truck industry.
Truck are also made to be heavy and sturdy, something that greatly adds weight. Electric vehicles are designed to be lightweight for them to be able to conserve their precious battery. This is also an important point for Tesla to address if it wants the Pickup to sell.
