Apple's next batch of iPhones are rumored to be merely a slight upgrade than the current flagship. Some people expressed their disappointments, so now reports are turning to the company's 2020 iPhones. According to the latest reports, next year's iPhones might feature a display that will put the devices at par with Apple's newer iPads.
120Hz displays can be seen in some gaming-focused handsets like the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2, but one tipster, who goes by the moniker Ice Universe, is claiming that next year's iPhones will be doubling their screen refresh rates. The iPhone XS right now is currently at 60Hz, FYI.
Ice Universe wrote on Twitter that the Cupertino company is "considering a switchable 60Hz/120Hz refresh rate screen on the iPhone in 2020," and that Apple apparently is dealing with LG and Samsung, both of which are huge companies known to supply AMOLED displays nearly everywhere in the world. This "switchable 60Hz/120Hz" capability will allow the 2020 iPhone to switch to a 60Hz refresh rate should static images be displayed to save battery life.
Let's say there's any truth to this, this isn't the first time Apple pulled off something like this. The company's newer iPads, both the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch variants, have impressive refresh rates set to 120Hz. The lacking OLED tech is a downer, but you get a LED Retina ProMotion anyway.
There's very little news about the 2020 iPhones, likely because Apple is still finalizing design work. But the rumors are there, with some suggesting that the company will be utilizing a smaller TrueDepth camera. This will shrink the notch, of course, but at the rear you will find a seven-piece lens system. There's even a rumor suggesting that there might be a model to be marketed in China alone that switches out Face ID for subscreen Touch ID.
As for the 2019 iPhones, things are pretty much familiar. The successor of the iPhone XR will still have an LCD display, and the XS and XS Max will sport OLED displays. Apple is planning to add cameras on this year's iPhones though, according to rumors that is.
The 2019 iPhone XR will be reportedly sporting dual cameras, and the higher tiers will have triple camera sensors encased in a square-shaped module. All three upcoming iPhones are also said to offer reverse wireless charging and will feature a new A13 processor.
Currently, Apple is busying themselves preparing to launch the iPhone 11 range September come. Until then, we'll have to wait for more solid bits of info.
