After saving Designated Survivor from its prior ABC cancellation, Netflix has officially put an end to the show. And despite having a huge cliffhanger at the end of the third run, the political drama series will no longer return to continue its course.

Last spring season, ABC cancelled the show after two seasons due to a massive decline in viewership numbers and ratings. In spite of its compelling and thrilling storylines, the second season has lost almost 40 percent of its initial viewers. And for any network with this kind of loss in terms of its materials, it is only fitting why the show has been cancelled.

But still, thanks to its loyal and strong fanbase, Netflix decided to pick up the show to continue its run. And even having only a total of ten episodes for its third installment, Designated Survivor Season 3 received praises from its viewers, both old and new. In fact, there are reports that the ratings have increased after its arrival on the streaming giant.

However, the transition from ABC to Netflix has not been pretty smooth as per What's On Netflix. And with all of the confusion about the contract agreements, this made the streaming platform to ultimately decide to cancel the show for good.

According to Digital Spy, Designated Survivor's main actor, Kiefer Sutherland, who happens to be one of the producers as well, revealed that the "complications" on the actors' contracts are the main reason why a fourth season is quite impossible to happen.

As a result of the "complications" on contracts, most of the actors took other "jobs" outside the show. And this is very understandable, the actor added.

Even so, he further went on to share that he "loved" making the series. But he concluded that it might be really now the time for them to go and do other things and projects.

As for Netflix, they also released a statement about the cancellation. And according to TV Line, the streaming service is very proud that they were able to offer the third installment of the series. And while the cancellation is already final, the platform will still "carry" Designated Survivor. So, the series will still be available on Netflix for streaming.

The service's statement also gives thanks to the cast and production, especially Kiefer Sutherland, who played President Kirkman's character passionately and dedicatedly.

With these statements at hand from both parties, it looks like that Designated Survivor will leave its fans in the dark for good.
