Many moviegoers loved the Alita: Battle Angel movie. The 2019 American cyberpunk action film is based on the Japanese manga series of Yukito Kishiro titled Battle Angel Alita, which was published in the 1990s. With the success of Robert Rodriguez's film, a lot of fans are wondering if Alita: Battle Angel 2 is happening in the future.
Alita: Battle Angel 2 is among the most talked about topics today. As a matter of fact, some fans even set up a petition for Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron to do a sequel of the manga-based movie. Though there is no official confirmation about the highly anticipated sequel as of yet, Robert teased the possibility of having two sequel movies in the future.
Robert Rodriguez divulged there are plans for Alita: Battle Angel 2 and even for Alita: Battle Angel 3. He stated that he intended to make Nova's role small in the first movie since his presence is "really for the setup of a sequel." He added that there would be another character to be explored, should another installment be made, named Clive Lee. "I figured we should save him for a sequel," he added.
Recently, Rosa Salazar expressed her interest in playing the titular role again if Robert Rodriguez's plans for Alita: Battle Angel 2 push through. "I would play Alita 'til my last breath," the 34-year-old American actress said during the Television Critics Association reception for her upcoming new series called Undone. "I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could," she went on.
Rosa shared that this is not the right time to do Alita: Battle Angel 2 following Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox. "Yeah, I mean, they had a crazy merger," the Undone lead star stated. "People are gaining jobs, people are losing jobs. The whole Disney/Fox acquisition is so involved, this isn't the right time for me to call Alan Horn and be like, 'Hey bro, I know you got a lotta stuff going on, but like what about Alita 2?'" she added.
Aside from Rosa Salazar, other personalities expected to return for the yet-to-be-confirmed sequel include Keean Johnson, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, and Jennifer Connelly. The first Alita movie earned a total of $404 million worldwide and was named as the tenth highest-grossing film of 2019.
