When Shrek first premiered in 2001, it immediately caught the eyes and hearts of many. With its witty, funny, and entertaining premise, it is not surprising at all as to why the film has been easily loved by many.
Years after, further sequels and spin-offs followed the first film to the franchise. And the most recent addition in its linear series is the fourth film titled, Shrek Forever After.
It has been nine years already ever since Shrek became the focal point of many theaters. And although there are a lot of talks about Shrek 5 since 2010, the film has been long stalled.
It is only in 2016 that the film is reported to be revived and rebooted. Quite obviously, it immediately shunned the fandom. According to Insider, fans think that there is no need for a "reboot." And instead, they would rather want to have the fifth installment to the franchise.
Following the whole confusion among the fans, updates and reports about Shrek 5 circulated the media. And based on the headlines, the film will premiere in between 2018 and 2019. Accordingly, the fans patiently waited for its arrival.
But as of the time being, 2019 is already reaching its fourth quarter, and no word or update has been heard yet about the fifth film to the franchise. This is why a lot of people are now losing hope. The lack of optimism has become so much more apparent recently.
While Geek has lately released a few speculations about Shrek 5, there are no clear indicators if it will still happen in the future. Not to mention, Your Countdown has been constant in changing the release date of the film. And currently, it is now set for a December 2020 premiere which makes it much more questionable among the fans.
There are also reports claiming that the "supposed" upcoming film will have new materials in terms of its plot and dynamic. Many fans agreed to these statements considering the fact that it is already the fifth addition to the franchise. And it is only suitable for Shrek 5 to provide and offer newer and fresher ideas.
But despite all the commotion and uproar about the hit animated film, no further updates have been given to the public. And much worse, the potential release dates tend to get pushed back almost all the time.
It may be unfortunate, but fans are now being realistic. And if Shrek 5 will still happen, it will surely become successful. But if not, then it seemingly appears that the fans will be disappointed yet would feel "okay" about the matter.
