Euphoria season 2 is not yet here, but it will surely come back on HBO. The season 1 finale, however, left a huge cliffhanger and left a question whether or not Rue is dead. So, what exactly happened to Zendaya's character?

Rue's health was one of the biggest concerns at the end of the previous season, in which she relapsed after she refused to get onto the train with Jules so they could escape their urban lives. Now, there were several theories about the future of the character in Euphoria season 2 -- many assumed she might be dead.

Executive producer Sam Levinson has something to say regarding the ending of the first season. In a report via The Hollywood Reporter, he shared what he thinks about the ending and what he wanted viewers to think. A dreamlike music video appeared in the final moments of season 1; hinting Rue overdosed for the second time -- possibly dead.

Levinson said he loves that people have their interpretation about the season 1 finale, but he assured that Rue is not dead. While he finds that theory interesting, he noted that the character still has a big journey ahead of her -- perhaps, a tough one. He didn't want to end Rue's journey just like that, largely because she is someone who battled with addiction and, then, came out on the other side.

Levinson also believes there's still more to explore and things are yet to unfold when it comes to effects of addiction on the character, as well as on her family and the people around her. While theories about a character's death are common midway through a series' run, Levinson assured viewers that Rue's story would continue in Euphoria season 2.

But, aside from Rue's health, the upcoming installment also needs to deal with Nate's (Jacob Elordi) mental and emotional breakdown the winter formal, and he broke up with Maddy (Alexa Demie) who has evidence against his father.

Also, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) was pregnant with her boyfriend McKay's (Algee Smith) baby but had an abortion before the winter formal. And Fez, a drop-out drug dealer, might probably be killed for the robbery he committed to repaying his supplier.

Meanwhile, the release date of Euphoria season 2 remains unknown right now, but season 1 premiered on June 16, 2019. Hence, it's very likely the second installment will arrive around the same month in 2020, and showrunner Levinson is expected to return as well.
