Dark Season 3 is going to be the last installment that would feature the mystery surrounding the small town of Winden. The final season will tie all the loose ends as it will answer all the lingering questions fans have been asking all along.
"We will offer answers to the questions that our viewers have been asking and help untangle the story through time," co-creators and showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar said, via The Hollywood Reporter. The two admitted it would be hard for them to walk away from the characters they have grown to love. But, the beginning would be the end, and the end would be the beginning.
Netflix international originals vice president Kelly Luegenbiehl added starting the previous season's production is much more than just the beginning of Dark Season 3's filming. He revealed they are "literally going full circle" with their first German original series and couldn't wait for the showrunners to fulfill their vision and unveil the show's final secrets.
The new season will reveal whether or not Jonas (Louis Hofmann) can stop the apocalypse and break the cycle. Friese said Season 3's basic idea was something that they already had when they were just starting.
There were even a lot of events in Season 1 that have a connection to Dark Season 3. There was also some stuff that they have put in the final season that should have been in Season 2. "So basically now everything that's left just falls into season three," Friese teased, via Express.
Aside from these events, fans are about to see a grown-up Ulrich (Oliver Masucci) in Dark Season 3. They would also focus on different characters and call some people that had smaller parts. However, Martha (Lisa Vicari) and Jonas would be the big centerpiece.
The new season's production has started in May. Odar revealed they aimed to show the final season next year.
Season 1 was released in December 2017. However, fans had waited for over a year and a half to see Season 2, which was out in June 2019 -- the same day Michael (Sebastian Rudolph) took his own life and kickstarted the chain of events.
So, when Dark Season 3 would be out? Although Netflix has yet to announce when the last and final season would be released, some fans expect it could be in June 2020. As it would be the day of the apocalypse and the beginning of the last cycle, it might be the safest assumption.
