McMafia season 2 is coming back on BBC, yet there were only a few details about the upcoming installment. For now, here's what we know so far about its possible release date, cast, spoilers, as well as filming details.

James Norton plays the role of Alex Godman in McMafia, a son of Russian ex-mob boss. The first season premiered in 2018, and then BBC announced McMafia season 2 is happening. However, the official release date of the upcoming installment remains unknown, but some speculated it might arrive at some point in late 2019 or early 2020.

The cast of McMafia season 2 was not yet revealed as well, but Norton will surely reprise his role as Alex Godman, alongside Juliet Rylance (Rebecca Harper), Aleksey Serebryakov (Dimitri Godman), Maria Shukshina (Oksana Godman), and Faye Marsay (Katya Godman). If ever the upcoming installment will focus on a new story, the series may be introducing new faces.

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Misha Glenny, McMafia follows Godman who has spent his years evading his family's past. He's running a legitimate business and trying to map out a future with his girlfriend, Rebecca. Godman struggled against the lured of corruption and the former connection of his family to the mafia world.

The first season concluded with Godman brokering a big deal to flood the European markets with heroin after pitching his plan. McMafia season 2 could follow the character rising through the ranks of mafia bosses in Europe and be a powerful figure in the organized crime world.

Meanwhile, the upcoming season of the series will be filmed in Croatia, where the first season has been filmed as well. The city of Zagreb is Prague in season 1, while Johann Frank nightclub is a club in Tel Aviv, and the Dubrava Clinical Hospital is a Russian hospital.

Director James Watkins said Croatia is a wonderful place for filming, adding that they love the enthusiasm and hospitality of the Croatian team. The director also said the country is known as a tourist location, but it's not yet being recognized from the UK production standpoint. McMafia season 2 will reportedly be filmed mostly in Zagreb and at coastal locations.

The trailer of the second season is not yet here, but it will surely come out at some point. McMafia is also one of the most popular programs on BBC iPlayer after the first episode became the most-watched show ever on the streaming service, and season 1 reportedly had an average of 7.1 million viewers since its debut in January 2018.
