There is a good reason why Star Wars fans are currently flooding social media with celebratory posts. It has been confirmed that Ewan McGregor is currently in negotiations to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, this doesn't mean that McGregor will have a small role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker or a new anthology film. It has been revealed that the Trainspotting star is in talks to lead in a Star Wars TV series focusing on the Jedi Master.

According to Deadline, McGregor is currently meeting with Disney and Lucasfilm on the planned series that is expected to air on the House of Mouse's streaming service Disney+. Although details have not yet been released, there is a huge possibility that McGregor will lead the show that could follow Obi-Wan Kenobi's life after the events in Revenge of the Sith. In addition to that, there is a possibility that the series will be based in Tatooine as Obi-Wan watches the young Luke Skywalker grow from a distance.

In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi took one of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala's twins back to Anakin's home planet. He left the baby Luke Skywalker with Anakin's stepbrother Owen Lars and his wife Beru so they could raise him together. Obi-Wan would then go into exile, not returning to Luke's life until A New Hope when C-3PO and R2-D2 bring the youth to him.

But is it possible that Obi-Wan Kenobi actually was a huge part of Luke Skywalker's life while the boy was growing up? There are speculations that the new Star Wars series will reveal how Obi-Wan kept a close watch on the young Skywalker on Tatooine. This was already hinted at in an amazing episode of the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

In the Star Wars Rebels Season 3 episode 'Twin Suns', Ezra Bridger and Chopper went to Tatooine in an effort to save Obi-Wan Kenobi from the vengeance-seeking Maul. Although Ezra tried to get Obi-Wan to join the Rebellion, the Jedi Master refused. After an epic lightsaber duel with Maul, Obi-Wan tells the dying villain that he is watching over whom he believes could be the Chosen One. The episode concludes with a shot of Obi-Wan watching the young Luke Skywalker from a distance.

This could be an interesting premise for the planned Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor. It could confirm that there were other villains who tried to take on Obi-Wan and perhaps try to kill Luke Skywalker. However, the Jedi Master could have defeated them all in an effort to keep the Chosen One safe.
