A royal expert has claimed Queen Elizabeth II has yet to face another "annus horribilis" because of her son Prince Andrew and granddaughter-in-law Meghan Markle.
The year 1992 was considered as "annus horribilis" or "horrible year" for Queen Elizabeth because of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's divorce, as well as the devastating fire that ravaged her beloved Windsor Castle.
Now, the monarch was reportedly warned that 2019 might be another "annus horribilis" due to the demands for Prince Andrew to speak about his relationship with child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, and the alleged "hypocrisy" from Markle.
In a report via Express UK, royal expert Dan Wootton told talkRADIO that Queen Elizabeth described 1992 as "annus horribilis" for the royal family, but this could happen again in 2019. He said the royal family has gone through a lot over the past few weeks, including Duke of York's relationship with pedophile and child sex trafficker Epstein.
The two are reportedly friends for many years, and then Wootton said Prince Andrew's press statements would not simply cut the issue. In July, Epstein was arrested due to federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges related to alleged abuse of hundreds of girls before.
The Duke of York denied allegations of any involvement with the "abhorrent activities" through several statements. Last Saturday, he released another statement regarding his friendship with Epstein again, saying he "infrequently" sees the man. He added that it's a difficult time for everyone and he's at a loss to be able to understand or explain the lifestyle of Epstein.
Wootton also said criticisms over Markle and husband Prince Harry over the past few months could cause trouble for the royal family, particularly to Queen Elizabeth. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex came under fire after speaking out about the threat of climate change in Vogue's September issue, in which Markle guest-edited.
However, the royal couple reportedly used four private jets to holiday in Europe four days later. Wootton claims Markle and Prince Harry have been criticized for eco-hypocrisy, in which they used private jets while preaching everyone about the threats of climate change. The royal expert also added that if they question this hypocrisy, then they have to be racist.
But, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been defended for their decision and international superstar Sir Elton John speaks out for the royal couple. He revealed that he lent his private jet to Markle and Prince Harry for a visit to southern France.
