The cast and crew of Blindspot season 5 are back on the set. Filming has been actively taking place over the summer and the production of the episode looks to be halfway.
In a post on Instagram more than a month ago, actor Eric Krauss confirmed that he was on the set of Blindspot season 5 with Sullivan Stapleton (as Kurt Weller). When a fan asked the episode they were working on, Krauss said they were on the fourth episode of production.
However, Blindspot season 5 seems to be short on news about the final release date, cast or even guest appearances. Apart from the report that Julee Cerda is joining the show in a recurring role, there's nothing else that fans can be excited about as the series seems to be off NBC's marketing radar.
Blindspot season 5 is also not on NBC's 2019 fall premiere schedule. Thus, it's safe to assume that the series will be back during the midseason, which will likely be around spring (March to May).
NBC renewed Blindspot season 5 a few weeks before the fourth season finale last May. According to TV Line, the final season will have fewer than 13 episodes.
Creator Martin Gero told Entertainment Weekly that Blindspot season 5 will open with a two-month time jump. It will explain what happened to that pulsating season 4 finale with the lives of Weller, Patterson (played by Ashley Johnson), Reade (played by Rob Brown) and Zapata (played by Audrey Esparza) on the line as Jane (played by Jaimie Alexander) watched the bomb go off from a distance.
"Presuming they all survive, or the ones who do, I think there will be great unity within [the team] like there never has been before," Gero said. "That's part of what excited us about doing season five. We really put this team at odds with each other at different times; it's been really rare that everyone has gotten along at the same time. "
Gero had always maintained in the past that he had a five-season plan for Blindspot. He also hinted that he had an idea of how the series will end since the first season.
Blindspot, which debuted in May 2016, started off as a show about a woman covered in tattoos who found herself waking up in the middle of Times Square naked. The FBI discovered that her tattoos tie to the cases they're working on. However, the series has evolved into other conspiracies as the season progressed.
