It has been almost six years since Michael Schumacher had a traumatic head injury that changed his life forever. Since then, nothing much has been revealed about the famed racing driver's condition, but there are updates about his health here and there from his friends and family. Even his former boss, Jean Todt, dropped some details about the seven-time World Champion's welfare.
It was in December 2013 when Schumacher hit his head on a rock while skiing at the Meribel ski resort in France. This made him suffer a severe head injury that left him in a coma for six months after being rushed to the hospital.
The doctors did their best to save the racing champion. They successfully pulled him out of unconsciousness a year later after the tragic accident. Since then, his family moved him to their house in Gland, Switzerland, where his rehabilitation continues.
According to Express, Schumacher was reportedly "paralyzed and in a wheelchair" in 2014. However, the latest update about his health and condition came from the Ferrari boss Todt. He told Radio Monte-Carlo he recently watched an F1 race with the renowned racer and he "keeps on fighting."
Todt explained, via Hello Magazine, he has always been careful saying things about Schumacher, but it's true. He even revealed they watched a race together at his home. "Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house. He does not give up and keeps fighting," he added.
His family also keeps on fighting with him in this difficult time. However, Todt revealed his relationship with Schumacher is not quite the same as it once was as they don't have the same communication as before.
F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, on the other hand, said Schumacher could answer media's questions about his health someday. Although he is not with them as of the moment, he will gladly talk to everyone when he gets better.
In January, Schumacher's family gave a rare update about his health on his official Facebook page in the time of his 50th birthday. "We are very happy to celebrate Michael's 50th birthday tomorrow together with you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts that we can do this together," the post read.
His family assured fans Schumacher is being well-taken care of and is in the very best hands. They also confirmed they are doing everything "humanly possible to help him." Explaining why they only give rare updates, they said they are only following his wishes not to share sensitive subjects like his health.
