Warning: This article contains spoilers for Lucifer Season 4.
Almost four months have passed now ever since Lucifer Season 4 triumphantly arrived on Netflix. With its apparent and sudden cancellation over at FOX after three seasons, the fans took a huge leap of faith in campaigning for the show.
Fortunately, the streaming giant picked up the series shortly after the fans petitioned for it. And a few months after, the newest season dropped on the platform and received impressive viewership records.
While Netflix does not actually disclose these kinds of figures to the public, previous reports state that the show has performed better in its new home. And according to What's On Netflix, this allowed for the platform to renew the show for another season.
As it happened, the renewal reports came in a day before the new season's arrival on Netflix. And with the show's new episode count for the season, many fans have really appreciated the early renewal. Besides, ten episodes are not that difficult to finish in one seating.
As the fans patiently wait for more details and updates about the new season, it has been announced a month or two after that Lucifer Season 5 will already serve as the final season of the show. And unsurprisingly, this caused a huge commotion among the fans. This is why most of them initiated a new campaign to extend the show for another season.
Although the gesture was very much appreciated by the showrunners and cast members, they all spoke about the matter and asked the fans to support the ending of the show instead. As it appeared, it seemed that the writers and showrunners have already planned this beforehand. And based on their statements, they revealed that this is a huge gift for them as they could end the show the way they wanted.
It is also worth noting that the final season is extended. Instead of having a total of 10 episodes, it will house a total of 16 episodes to complete its final run.
Lucifer Season 5 is already in the process of development. As per Metro UK, writing began back in July. And right now, they've already released the title of the final season's first episode: Really Sad Devil Guy.
The title fits the overall narrative considering how it all ended the previous season. Lucifer went back to hell to contain it after the devils wreaked havoc on Earth. And this happened right after he and Chloe revealed their true feelings for each other.
So, obviously, the final season will start with Lucifer in hell showing his sad emotions as he can no longer return to the love of his life, Chloe, on Earth.
No word has heard yet about the final season's arrival. But if in case the series would follow its latest schedule pattern, then Lucifer Season 5 might drop on Netflix in summer of 2020.
