Five months after Altered Carbon's pilot premiere on Netflix, the platform finally announced the renewal of the futuristic science fiction series. Back in July, Netflix confirmed that the series would return for a new season.

After releasing the ten-episode pilot run, the series has impressed many fans and viewers. The general reviews and receptions are inclining toward the positive line. This is why it is not surprising why the show received a renewal from the streaming giant.

What's even more shocking is that it took five months before the renewal announcement came. Not to mention, it has been revealed the new season will house a total of eight episodes.

As every fan would recall, the pilot run of Altered Carbon featured a total of ten episodes. And according to Digital Spy, the reason behind the episode count reduction remains unknown. Nevertheless, the fans are just happy that the show has been given a new opportunity to entertain the fandom.

It is also worth noting that Altered Carbon has been hinted to run for more than five seasons. And if everything goes "well," this might just happen in the future.

As for the cast members, there will be a huge change in this area once the new season arrives. It has been previously revealed that the main character, Takeshi Kovacs, will be played by a new actor.

During the first season run of the show, Kovacs was played by Joel Kinnaman. It went well for him the whole season. But upon airing the finale, it seems that it already foreshadowed his exit to the show.

His character, Kovacs, decided to leave the Earth, along with his body. And this only paved the way for a new "Kovacs" to play out in the next seasons of the series.

As per Cheat Sheet, the second season's Takeshi Kovacs will be played by the Avenger's Falcon, Anthony Mackie. Certainly, Kovacs' consciousness will be, once again, transferred to another host, which in this case, will be Anthony Mackie's body.

This actually made the whole series a lot more interesting. And when the reports revealed that Takeshi Kovacs might be played by new actors, even actresses, in the next few seasons, it immediately caught the attention of the viewers.

Accordingly, many people have become so much more eager to obtain the new season of Altered Carbon. Unfortunately, though, there are no further updates given about its arrival on Netflix.

For all the reports know, the series has already begun its filming and shooting. And it might take a year before the new season's production would conclude. Hence, Altered Carbon Season 2 might not arrive until 2020.
