A feature on Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's Wife, has sparked another fury from the followers and admirers of the royal. The segment on 60 Minutes Australia is still going to air on television, but it has been tagged as an assassination on the character of Duchess Meghan.
The promo titled "Inside a Royal Crisis" was posted on 60 Minutes Australia's social media. It described how Prince Harry's wife quickly became "insufferable" in just a matter of one year after when she used to greatly admired by the public.
Several personalities from the British press were interviewed in the piece to express why they have changed their perception of Duchess Meghan. One of them was Katie Hopkins, a well-known media personality with far-right leanings, who is not a royal expert. Another journalist, Karl Stefanovic, said in the short clip that there's a "MegXit" among his colleagues.
The promo, however, received backlash and ridicule from the public who pointed out that this story on Duchess Meghan was, in fact, about racism and bullying. Actress Mia Farrow could not help but voice out what she thought of the feature on her Twitter.
"Great Britain is fortunate to have this intelligent, compassionate, beautiful woman in the Royal Family," Farrow posted to defend Duchess Meghan from the 60 Minutes Australia feature. "In her, Prince Harry has found happiness, and for that, we rejoice."
Since dating Prince Harry in mid-216, Duchess Meghan, then a TV actress on Suits, has been the subject of a prying media. This prompted Kensington Palace to issue an official statement condemning the racist remarks against Prince Harry's then-girlfriend.
Despite everything that has been thrown towards Duchess Meghan though, she remained unfazed. She will officially return to her royal duties on Thursday, Sept. 12 as her maternity leave has ended.
Per Harper's Bazaar, Duchess Meghan's first official appearance four months after giving birth to Archie Harrison will be the launch of Smart Works, a line of working women's clothes that will benefit several charities. She is expected to make a speech and stay for a few minutes for the panel discussion.
Duchess Meghan worked with several designers from British brands like Marks & Spencer, Jigsaw, and John Lewis & Partners for this initiative. She also tapped Misha Nonoo, who reportedly introduced Prince Harry to her, to design some essential work clothes for the Smart Works collection.
