Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may decide to live in America with their son Archie Harrison. Following reports that they are looking for a house in Malibu, speculations have risen over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's permanent move across the pond to avoid the negativity of the British press.
According to The Daily Beast, the fact that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have hired veteran Hollywood publicist Ken Sunshine of Sunshine Sachs to be on their PR team suggest that they plan on building a significant media presence in the U.S to prepare for their eventual move. This comes after the duchess insinuated to pop star Pharrell Williams last July that dealing with the British media is making things more difficult.
Royal insiders are also claiming that this has been a "summer of hell" for Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry despite the birth of their son, Archie Harrison, and the duchess guest-editing British Vogue. The Sussex royals had to deal with one PR disaster after another, spurred by their private jet trips to Ibiza, Spain and Nice, France, and Prince Harry's declaration that they should only have two children maximum to lessen their carbon footprint.
"Hiring a Hollywood firm to represent you for PR while a member of the Royal Family is unorthodox, to say the least," the royal insider said. "Senior palace courtiers have been left bemused over the last few months that the couple has been ignoring advice from their own highly-professional team and will instead listen to outsiders in Hollywood."
Before the private jet controversy, reports also came out regarding Duchess Meghan's "difficult" behavior hence the high staff turnover at the Sussex house. The British press also feasted on the alleged feud between Prince Harry and Prince William, as well as Duchess Meghan and Duchess Kate Middleton.
Of late, Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have been criticized for disrespecting Queen Elizabeth herself because they have turned down her invitation to spend the summer at Balmoral. Prince Charles is also disappointed that his second son and his wife haven't shown any interest in visiting their Welsh border. It would have been Duchess Meghan's first visit to the estate since they also skipped Balmoral last year as she was pregnant with Archie.
The desire to move to Malibu is borne by the royals' need to break free from the constraints of their privileged life. If they move to Los Angeles, Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry won't have to contend with too much scrutiny on their by the press unlike if they continue to stay in the U.K.
