Queen of the South season 5 is coming back on the USA Network. Following its season finale in August, the network has confirmed the show's renewal in a press release, pending the actual release date.

Alicia Braga will be back to play Teresa Mendoza in Queen of the South season 5. The hit drama series, about a woman involved in a Mexican drug cartel, will further expand as Teresa makes both new deals and new enemies.

A new teaser for Queen of the South season 5 suggests that the Russians are going to be important to Teresa while the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is at her door. It bears noting, however, that production for the next season has yet to begin.

Viewers will recall that Teresa asked her men in Queen of the South season 4 that she wants to work with the Russian cartel from New York to expand her business. Despite her crew warning her of this dangerous deal, she pressed on because she wanted to establish a legitimate operation.

One of the scenes in the teaser show Teresa wearing a white suit, as she walks towards two Russian men, for what looks like a potential business deal. But is this a hint of things to come for Queen of the South season 5? Will Teresa finally fall in the hands of the Russians? Teresa was wearing a white suit before she was killed in the very first scene of the series' debut four years ago.

Meanwhile, according to the showrunner Ben Lobato, James Valdez (played by Peter Gadiot) will be another vital character in Queen of the South season 5. With his presence, Teresa will experience a turning point, especially after Tony (played by Julian Silva) was killed in the final moments of season 4. After a bloody encounter, James came back, despite struggling and bleeding, to warn Teresa that her enemies are coming after her.

"We decided to get [James] back in and set him up for season five and let's go," Lobato told Entertainment Weekly. "Tony's death really is a catalyst and a turning point for her. This is now arching for her towards the one thing that we've all been waiting for, which is for her to become queen," he added.
