Despite the first, and perhaps the only, season of Monster Musume wrapping up in 2015, fans of the anime series continue to ask creator Okayado for a follow-up. The months don't pass without the famous manga author getting questions about Monster Musume season 2, but there hasn't been anything concrete about the series renewal.

One fan asked the manga creator on Twitter when could fans expect Monster Musume season 2. Another fan pointed out that he has seen "Niki Kettei" speculations too many times that it's pretty obvious fans of the animation are still hoping for the next installment.

In 2015, Crunchy Roll confirmed that there was an Easter egg hidden in the season finale of Monster Musume season 1, which alluded to the second season. Apparently, in one of the scenes, the words "Niki Kettei" was written on a signboard. Roughly translated, this phrase either meant that Monster Musume season 2 was in deliberation while other fans concluded that it had been confirmed by the studio.

Lerche, the studio that holds the license for Monster Musume season 2, doesn't have the project in the pipeline following the release of the two-episode anime DVD last 2017. In other words, the follow-up series is not in active development as of press time.

For a brief time, fans of the anime series anticipated a delay for Monster Musume season 2 since Okayado took a break from work to focus on his health. He announced that he was going to be out of commission for a few months.

But after bouncing back from his health hiatus in December 2018, Okayado didn't have anything to update about the anime series. Meanwhile, the creator last released Monster Musume manga volume 14 in June 2018 for Japan and December 2018 for its English readers. There is still no word on the next publication, but the manga remains in active circulation.

Monster Musume, which also goes by the title Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls, follows Kimihito, a young man who takes care of liminals or mythical creatures in his house as part of a test case for the Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act. He was in a unique position to marry and procreate with these liminals. So, these creatures competed for his attention.

Lauded and loved for its comedic storylines and naughty scenes, Monster Musume became a cult hit among anime fans. The show ran in Japan, but it's also popular in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Scandinavia.
