With Anthony Joshua set to fight Andy Ruiz Jr. in December in a rematch after he lost to him in June, fans could not be any more excited to know who is the better fighter, really. Allegedly, Fury is as excited as the fans to know this and at the same time, wishing he could fight Joshua once more. So much so that he constantly calls up Joshua just to tell him he will knock him out.
Joshua himself told Behind the Gloves that Fury that the two of them are actual phone buddies, wherein they threaten or promise to knock each other out all the time. "He's an interesting character. Tyson will call me randomly on the phone and he will be like, 'have a little laugh and I will have a little laugh'. Then I will say I'm going to knock you out, then he will say 'shut up I'll knock you out," Joshua shared. "That's just me and Tyson, through and through the respect's there but we're fighting men," he added.
It appears with this revelation then that they could be friends. However, Joshua was also quick to clarify that they are not at all! "Not friends, not friends, not friends but there's a mutual respect there, I respect the man, he's done his thing," he clarified. Joshua shared that while Fury has been fighting at the tender age of 12, he only started at 18 and did not even do anything remotely relevant to the boxing profession before this. Instead, football was his only thing.
"I used to play a bit of football in the local area but when it came to boxing, that's where my heart is attached to, I love this sport and I'd love to fight him one day," he said.
Losing against Ruiz Jr. was a great surprise - if not one of the most massive upsets in boxing's recent history. When the Mexican-American knocked the 29-year-old in the seventh round, he took home several big titles - Englishman's WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight world titles.
Fury reportedly believes this is one reason why he can certainly beat Joshua or why Joshua cannot beat him for the matter. He told IFL TV that with his loss, Joshua just might as well retire because he will not be able to handle any other decent heavyweights out there today - not Deontay Wilder and certainly not him, Tyson Fury.
