Bodyguard has been one of the most-watched series on BBC, and it is also available to stream on Netflix. The first season of the Richard Madden-led series ended back in September 2018, yet the fate of Bodyguard season 2 remains unknown since then.

Currently, there is no official announcement about then renewal status of Bodyguard season 2. However, writer and series creator Jed Mercurio and Madden believe the BAFTA-winning thriller will be returning at some point. Mercurio particularly revealed he's open to doing the second installment, but Madden noted it might not be coming back anytime soon since his character, David Budd, "needs a vacation."

During an event in Los Angeles organized by Netflix, Madden revealed he and Mercurio talked about the potential season 2. But, the latter decided to give it a couple of years to work on something better. The two reportedly agreed there's something much more interesting about the series, and Madden decided to catch up with the Mercurio after 18 months.

Meanwhile, in a related report via Metro, series star Sophie Rundle said "she doesn't know what's going on" with Bodyguard season 2. The actress, who plays Vicky Budd, revealed she's uncertain about the future of the series. She added a lot of people are asking about the status of the show, but admitted she has no idea what's going on.

"Everyone asks me this! Hopefully [it'll be back]. I have no idea," Rundle told the outlet during the launch of her other series, Peaky Blinders season 5.

Rundle's character is David's estranged wife, who always begged her husband to seek help after coming back from war. There's a slight hope between these two as the previous season ended on a positive note, hinting they will reunite in the future.

There could be a time jump in Bodyguard season 2 if ever - sending these two and their children into the future after the events in season 1. If ever this happens, Madden and Rundle are likely coming back in Bodyguard season 2.

Also, David Westhead (as John Vosler, the Prime Minister), Gina McKee (Anne Sampson), Michael Schaeffer (Richard Longcross), Nina Toussaint-White (Louise Rayburn), Richard Riddell (Tom Fenton), Ash Tandon (Deepak Sharma), Vincent Franklin (Mike Travis), and Paul Ready (Rob MacDonald) are all expected to come back in the new season as well.

Other cast members that would likely reprise their role in Bodyguard season 2 includes Claire-Louise Cordwell (Kim Knowles), Stuart Bowman (Stephen Hunter-Dunn), Shubham Saraf (Tahir Mahmood), Stephanie Hyam (Chanel Dyson), Tom Brooke (Andy Apsted), Matt Stokoe (Luke Aikens), Keeley Hawes (Julia Montague), Pippa Haywood (Chief Superintendent Lorraine Craddock), and Nicholas Gleaves (Roger Penhaligon).
