McMafia Season 2 will soon be in the works after BBC announced its new set's location. In no time, the cameras will start rolling in Croatia as Alex Godman (James Norton) returns to action.

The show's filming will begin in early autumn of this year, as MP Film Production will continue to be its local service provider for the country in the Balkans. After the show managed to use its incentives for the first season, producers once again applied for a new round of cash rebates, per Film New Europe.

The crime drama series is based on the non-fiction novel of the British journalist Misha Glenny, titled McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld. The bestseller was published in 2008 and now a big hit on TV.

Created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins, it stars Norton as the British-born son of a Russian mafia boss. Produced by BBC, AMC and Cuba Pictures, the show has been filmed in 12 countries, so far, even though it has only run for one season.

In Season 1, most of its set location was in London and some areas in Croatia. However, none of its stories happened in the said country. The city of Zagreb was used as Prague in some of its scenes, while the Dubrava Clinical Hospital played a Russian hospital.

Also, the Johann Frank nightclub acted as a club in Tel Aviv, and other cities were used as different places, like France, Israel, and Sinai desert. Hence, the use of locations in Croatia in McMafia Season 2 will look something new in the viewers' eyes.

Season 1 employed about 150 Croatian film workers and over 3,000 extras. Croatian actors, like Nina Violić, Lucija Šerbedžija, and Goran Navojec, also joined the show by having supporting roles. In Season 2, BBC might once again hire the same number of local employees to help its people.

So, what will happen in McMafia Season 2? According to TV Season Spoilers, while Season 1 started the crime and terror in Alex's life, Season 2 would explore its depth. Despite Alex's effort to stay away from the family business, it would be of no use.

Instead, there will be more challenges and threats that will come to Alex's life in the new season. Fans can expect to see more action and thriller scenes here, given that new issues will come to Alex's way. BBC has yet to announce when McMafia Season 2 will be out, but it is expected for release in 2020.
