Philippe Coutinho has revealed he sought out the advice of former Liverpool teammate Roberto Firmino before his loan move from Barcelona to Bayern Munich. Both players played together for the Reds before Coutinho's move to Barca in 2019 for £142 million.
The 27-year-old winger had a falling out at Camp Nou, resulting in a loan agreement between Barca and Bayern. The move is seen as a revival for Coutinho's career.
Before joining the German club, however, Coutinho consulted with Firmino for words of wisdom as the latter had played for the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim before joining Liverpool four years ago. His fellow Brazilian shared what he knew about the league and told him everything about his new club.
Coutinho revealed that he found Firmino's information favorable, which had contributed to his decision to join Bayern in a bid to revive his career. He went on to say that he feels very welcome at the new club and is very happy, saying that he will try his best to repay Munich with the best of his abilities.
In an interview with SportBild, Coutinho talked about his time so far in Munich.
"I talked with Roberto Firmino [who knows the Bundesliga from his time in Hoffenheim] about the intensity of the Bundesliga and the tight matches there," Coutinho said. "He told me a lot about the different Bundesliga teams."
The Brazilian shared that some of his former teammates had asked how he was doing at Bayern and he reported that he was very happy with his new club.
And it sure looks like his teammates at Bayern Munich echo the same feeling, with his new teammate Benjamin Pavard recently hailing Coutinho as a quality player. The Bayern defender observed he thinks the Brazilian "still isn't at 100 percent" but believes he will eventually get used to his new life in Germany.
Pavard talked to Sky Sport in Germany and was all praises for his new teammate:
"A little wizard! He is very discreet and really personable. First of all, a really fine guy. And of course a very good footballer."
"It's very hard to get him off the ball. He's not 100 percent yet, but I'm sure, in a few weeks, we will see the world-class footballer Coutinho."
Coutinho has already played for Bayern in the club's first two matches in the Bundesliga against Mainz and Schalke. With Liverpool, his career lasted five years scoring 54 goals in 201 appearances.
