The Neighborhood season 2 is set to premiere on CBS later this month. Following the successful run of the first season, the network renewed the sitcom series back in January. Now, here's everything we know about the latest installment -- including the official release date, cast, plot, and other details.

The Neighborhood season 2 has been renewed even though the first run received poor ratings, as per Monster and Critics. The approval rating of the series on Rotten Tomatoes is only 24 percent based on 17 reviews. But then, the decision to renew the sitcom isn't likely based on the reviews, as the renewal might be due to its impressive ratings and viewership numbers.

The Neighborhood ranked fifth among the scripted series of CBS in the 2018-2019 TV season. The first season had an average of 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and with 6.49 million viewers (Live+Same Day). Thus, the ratings have made an impact on renewing the show.

The lead stars of the sitcom are also set to comeback in The Neighborhood season 2. That means Max Greenfield will reprise his role as Dave Johnson, alongside Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler. Other cast members expected to return include Beth Behrs (Gemma), Tichina Arnold (Tina), Sheaun McKinney as (Malcolm), Marcel Spears as (Martin), and Hank Greenspan (Grover).

The Neighborhood tells a story of what happens when a white family from Michigan moves to a diverse neighborhood in Los Angeles. Dave, dubbed as the "nicest guy in the Midwest," moved with his wife Gemma and son Grover from Michigan to LA, after his wife accepted a new job as a school principal.

Being the "nicest guy," Dave wants to be a good neighbor, especially with the Butler family. Everyone from the family welcomes the Johnsons, except for the patriarch of the Butlers, Calvin. He's worried Dave would prompt other middle-class white people to move in their area, which is a predominantly black neighborhood.

In season 1, Dave tried to be familiar with Calvin, his friends, as well as other neighbors, hoping that Calvin would eventually like him. The Neighborhood is one of the few shows that tries to explore the dynamics between African-Americans and white people. But aside from that, the sitcom also shows how white privilege plays a huge role in society today.

The Neighborhood season 2 is set to arrive on Monday, September 23, on CBS.
