The fall season is filled with a lot of new season premieres for almost every network. And for ABC, The Conners Season 2 is included in its fall premiere schedule.
Although the show is sealed to return for a whole new run, one of its stars has been confirmed to leave the show for good. Maya Lynne Robinson, who plays the role of Geena, will no longer return for the new season.
As it happened, she is set to play a new role for another show outside ABC. But while the actress can no longer play the character, Geena will not be technically out of the show. Instead, she will be written off in a way that she still exists in the world of The Conners.
It has been largely established before that Geena is a 2nd Lieutenant in the army. The show will utilize this background of hers to set her apparent exit on the show. Per Cinema Blend, Geena has been "redeployed" so she will be out of the picture. This will leave her husband and daughter, Dj and Mary, on their own.
Somehow, many are convinced that this is good news for Geena. This is because there is a huge chance that she would return in the future or make an appearance every once in a while. But of course, The Conners Season 2 will still have to adjust with her exit, so she might not be seen in the upcoming episodes.
Geena's redeployment is one of the big changes that will happen in the next season. But aside from her exit, another new thing that could make a big impact on the show is about to arrive along with the new season.
According to TV Line, Katey Sagal, who played the role of Louise in one of the previous episodes, will return to reprise the role. And instead of being a guest star, she will now be playing a recurring role.
It has been revealed that out of the 19 episodes, she will be seen in ten of them. So, this could mean that she and Dan might start their possible romance on the show. Showrunner, Bruce Helford, also told in the interview that this possibility might just take a while since they want to take things "slowly" this time around.
The "reintroduction" of Louise's character will be one of the focal points of the second season. And things might further expand in future installments.
The Conners Season 2 is set to premiere on September 24, on ABC.
