Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello were hurt that some netizens commented that they kiss like fish. Mendes is most likely referring to the comments on their photos that were taken while they smooch in public places including the kiss that they shared during the 21st birthday of Mendes last month and the snaps while on vacation in Miami last summer. 

To hit back on trolls and prove that they do not kiss like fish, Mendes posted a video of him and his girlfriend, Cabello, kissing in a very bizarre way. The clip went viral and also made the day of many celebrities. 

The "Senorita" singers shared a video of themselves on Wednesday, Sept. 11, telling the audience how they feel when they read negative comments about how they kiss. 

"So, we saw on like Twitter and stuff, you guys saying stuff about the way we were kissing and how it looks weird - we kiss like fish," Mendez said. "It really hurt our feelings," Cabello added. 

Then, the "If I Can't Have You" singer surprisingly told the viewers that they would show how they "actually kiss." The couple went on for what seems to be a romantic kiss at first until they started doing the "fish kiss." Cabello then bursts out laughing, and the pair pull back apart.

Soon after the clip was posted on Instagram, celebrities started to pour in their comments about Mendes and Cabello's kiss. Mendes' fellow Canadian singer Justin Bieber called the pair's makeup video "weird" but admitted that he likes it. 

One Direction member Niall Horan's crying-laughing emojis said it all about how he felt when he watches the clip. Charlie Puth expressed his laughter while Mendes' frequent music collaborator Teddy Geiger wrote, "Omg this is the cutest s*** I've seen on the internet."

The kissing video could also Mendes and Cabello's answer to those who got disappointed when they sang "Señorita" at the 2019 MTV Music Video Awards but didn't deliver the much-awaited onstage kiss. The couple delivered a very steamy performance at the awards show, and many were anticipating a kiss at the end of their song. Mendes and the "Havana" singer, however, decided just to hold hands, hug tight, and intensely stare at each other on stage. 

Mendes and the former Fifth Harmony member first sparked dating rumors in June when they release the steamy music video of "Señorita." Then, they were photographed making out on a beach in Miami. 

The two admitted the romance in August. Their most recent display of PDA happened at Mendes' hometown of Toronto, Canada where they were spotted kissing and hugging each other.
