In less than two weeks, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 21 is finally arriving on NBC. While the fans are very excited about the show's new offerings this installment, the cast and crew of the series have expressed more their joy, excitement, and overwhelming emotions for the new season.
The live-action spin-off series of the 1990's Law & Order, first aired on the network in 1999. The director of the franchise, Dick Wolf, got inspired by the 1986 murder case of Robert Chambers, which largely focused on "human sexuality."
He then planned for the spin-off to be originally called Sex Crimes. But since there were a lot of controversies surrounding the nature of the title, along with the dynamic of the show, they proceeded with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The main premise of the spin-off is to focus on the various sexual-related crimes. This is why the title itself became so much more fitting since the unit will be a special department who would handle such cases in the world of Law & Order.
For many years, the series obtained impressive numbers in terms of viewership records. Not to mention, it also received numerous accolades and distinctions for its premise, acting, script, setting, and overall dynamic. And even after Law & Order finally bowed down after 20 years, the spin-off continued to air on NBC.
Today, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is named as the longest-running live-action scripted series in the history of television. And per TV Guide, this made the cast and crew of the show, even more, overwhelmed given that the series still feels "vital" after more than two decades.
With its new season that will arrive on September 26, it has been revealed that there will be new changes. While the premise and setting would remain the same, for the first time, the show will now have more female writers in the crew.
In an interview with E! Online, it has been revealed that there are currently 11 writers for the show's new season. And seven of them are all women. Some of them are journalists who are "first-timers" in writing scripts and stories for television series materials. So, the new season will certainly feel much fresher in terms of the plot and scripts.
Ahead of the premiere, a documentary-style teaser has also been released. And in it, the clip featured almost all of the main cast members of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as they share their overwhelming emotions over the show's current success.
The teaser also showed a few clips from the future episodes, along with the future guest stars including Ian McShane and Ariel Winter.
