Amid the divorce scandal surrounding actors Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun, netizens have, recently, taken to questioning the actor's involvement in the Jung Joon Young's chatroom scandal, which led to the sexual abuse of multiple women. As his lawyer defends Ahn Jae Hyun from the charges, it may seem like he could also face penalties for violation of the Attorney-At-Law Act.
It can be recalled that the controversial break up between Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun has dragged both personalities and their co-workers into the fray with the actress, initially, releasing portions of their chat that cast her husband as an inconsiderate and irresponsible spouse.
Gu Hye Sun even accused Ahn Jae Hyun of having a relationship with an actress that he is filming a drama with, which prompted the agency of Oh Yeon Soo to take legal action for defamation. As weeks progressed, the full chat log of Ahn Jae Hyun and Gu Hye Sun was released by Dispatch and flipped public opinion in the New Journey to the West cast member's favor.
With netizens expressing doubt on whether the actor was also involved in another controversy because of his friendship with Jung Joon Young, Ahn Jae Jyun's lawyer has stepped up to debunk the claims, Koreaboo reported.
"I am the lawyer who [helped] a whistleblower report the 'Jung Joon Young chatroom case.' I have seen all of the conversations in the chatroom at the time. Through this case, I looked at Jung Joon Young's KakaoTalk once again, and there were no conversations shared between the two of them. I found that in a conversation with a third party on July 19, 2016," Bang Jung Hyun said.
However, this could land the lawyer in trouble despite clearing his client's name. A report from Money Today hinted that the usage of information from Jung Joon Young's case to clear Ahn Jae Hyun could be a direct transgression of Korea's Attorney-At-Law Act.
According to the source from the Korean Bar Association, the act of using the data or chat logs from one's previous case for another client could be considered a violation to the lawyer's responsibility to maintain confidentiality.
Reports indicate that lawyer Bang Jung Hyun received the raw data for the chat logs from an anonymous whistleblower, which he turned over to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. It is believed that the lawyer made a copy before turning the evidence over to the authorities.
