God Friended Me is set to return with a brand new season later this month and also about to introduce a new recurring character. The CBS comedy-drama has tapped French Canadian actress Karine Vanasse to play a role that has a mysterious connection to the God account.
According to Deadline, Vanasse will portray the character Audrey Grenelle, a French socialite who has a link to the God account. Her involvement will lead Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall) to a discovery that will change everything he thought he knew about the account.
Vanasse is known for her role as Margaux LeMarchal in Emily VanCamp-starred series Revenge. She also appeared in the Canadian crime drama television series, Cardinal.
God Friended Me follows the life of Miles, an outspoken New Yorker atheist who runs a podcast and debunked God's presence while his father, Arthur Finer (Joe Morton), who is a pastor of an Episcopal church in Harlem. His life changes when he receives a friend request on social media from "God."
Although skeptical at first, Miles decides to follow the suggestions to help people. He eventually became friends with a magazine writer, Cara (Violett Beane). Together with Cara and his hacker buddy Rakesh (Suraj Sharma), Miles tries to figure out who is behind the "God" account.
The previous season ended up with a cliffhanger. Miles met a girl, Joy (Jessica Lu), who also claims that like him, she is receiving friend requests from God. Meanwhile, Cara is heading to Paris to write a book about Pria (Parminder Nagra), Simon (Adam Goldberg), and Henry (Derek Luke).
God Friended Me premiered last year with 20 episodes and its pilot season received mixed reviews from critics. Season 2 is set to premiere on September 29.
In the first official trailer for the sophomore year of the CBS show, Rakesh is seen telling his friend Miles to train Joy about the ways on how to deal with the God account. But, it seems like Joy has no interest in following Miles' footsteps or follow the friend suggestions from the God account.
Elsewhere, Simon will help Cara reconnect with an important person from her past while she is still in Paris. Trish, on the other hand, shows concern when Arthur gets reluctant to buy a new home with his fiancée and sell the house where he raised his family.
