With Jon Seda's imminent exit on the show, Chicago P.D. Season 7 will certainly be a little different than before. Although Seda previously left the show for the series' spin-off, Chicago Justice, he returned one season after to reprise the role of Antonio Dawson.

The sixth season ran smoothly. However, Jon Seda decided to ultimately exit the show for good. Per TV Line, no word has been shared about his departure. But, with him gone in the picture, this could mean more "screentime" with the other characters of the series.

Aside from the additional screentime, it is also worth considering that there will a huge spot missing with his absence. And, this could mean promotion for the remaining characters in the unit.

Many fans are looking for an Atwater and Ruzek-centered installment when Chicago P.D. Season 7 premieres, especially on Atwater's side considering that his character was not entirely given a chance to evolve.

According to MEA World Wide, Atwater's character, as an African-American cop, always centered on racial issues. Although this is a huge and important issue to tackle on, it limited the character's involvement in the totality of the series. But, thankfully, it has been revealed that the upcoming season will make a shift towards his character and possibly center the dynamic on his role.

Showrunner Rick Eid largely hinted that Kevin Atwater might now have his love interest, for the first time ever. It is not revealed as to who this person might be, but this storyline will pretty much take place in Chicago P.D. Season 7.

Aside from his "love life," a promotion might be waiting for him on the other line. And with Antonio's exit, he might just be the person who will fill in the position.

Cartermatt explains that the possibility of these storylines happening is huge. The publication largely pointed out that the brief synopsis for Chicago P.D. Season 7 Episode 2 mainly talks about Atwater's most dangerous mission yet.

He is revealed to go undercover to bring down a "dangerous" and huge South Side drug syndicate. And if he succeeds, then, this might serve as his stepping stone in getting the recognition that he long deserved.

These hints and clues made a lot of fans happy and excited. However, the showrunner also noted that these are just possibilities. So, they could either happen or not at all.

Accordingly, the only way to find out is to tune in with the upcoming episodes of Chicago P.D. Season 7. The new season will start dropping new episodes on September 25, on NBC.
