Taylor Swift will return in The Voice season 17 as a "Mega Mentor," and this news was confirmed via the official Instagram account of the NBC singing competition. The singer will be joining returning coaches Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend in the latest installment. However, Swift may not appear in the early run of the show.
In the teaser video, Shelton and Legend are wondering who would be the Mega Mentor in the upcoming The Voice season 17. Legend said the Mega Mentor should be one of the most successful people in the music industry. Then, Shelton joked he couldn't be since he's already a coach.
And, at that point, Swift walked out of a trailer and casually greeted the two coaches. Eventually, Legend and Shelton pieced the puzzle together and realized the "Lover" singer would be the Mega Mentor of the season.
"We promise that you'll never find another Mega Mentor like her," the caption wrote, adding, "see you soon" and tagged Swift's official Instagram account.
Swift, however, may not appear in the early episodes of The Voice season 17 as she'll likely be involved in either Knockout Rounds. The singer has already appeared in the singing competition during the seventh season in 2014. Back then, Swift was a Knockout mentor and, if ever she'll return within that round, then, her episodes will likely air in late October.
During the Knockout phase, the artists are being paired with a teammate and choose their songs to perform individually. So, Swift will work with all four teams, and she will provide feedback, suggestions.
In another report, Stefani is gearing up to "beat" her boyfriend, Shelton, in The Voice season 17. The 7-minute preview of the premiere episode teased that the competition between them will be intense. Stefani has never won on the show despite serving as a coach on three previous seasons. Shelton, on the other hand, has already won six championships.
"To actually be here and get to beat Blake..." Gwen declares in the clip. "This is war!"
But, Stefani also admitted she's concerned the competition would cause some issues in her relationship with Shelton. She said she didn't know if it's going to feel awkward to be fighting against her boyfriend. The couple met during the seventh season of The Voice. When Stefani returned for the ninth season in 2015, they both happened to be going through divorces, and they've been together since then.
The Voice season 17 will premiere on Monday, September 23, on NBC.
