Frozen 2 is just a few months away, and the upcoming movie will continue to follow the adventures of Elsa and Anna. But, when it comes to Elsa's love life, the songwriting team has something to say about it. Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez confirmed the sequel would not touch Elsa's romantic interest, or even explore that part of her story.
During the D23 Expo 2019, Anderson-Lopez told IGN that Elsa would not be defined by a romantic interest in Frozen 2 -- just like the first movie. She said a lot of film usually define a woman by her romantic interest, but that's not the story they wanted to tell. Instead, they wanted to focus on essential parts of the movie.
"What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven't been found before?" Anderson-Lopez explained.
It only makes sense Elsa won't have a love interest in the sequel as the majority of the people behind the movie have said they wanted to tell a specific story and the main character's love life doesn't fall on the category. The creative team revealed Frozen 2 was made to answer the frequently asked questions from the first movie.
For instance, most fans were wondering why Elsa has powers, while Anna doesn't have any. The upcoming movie will also explore where their parents were going when the ship sank and what happened to them after that tragic accident. Some speculated Elsa and Anna's parents are still alive and will have a significant role in the sequel.
And, while the return of parents has been confirmed, the confirmation was only for flashback scenes. While it's also possible they died, it's worth noting the plot is set in an enchanted forest. So, there's a good chance they are still alive and just waiting for Elsa and Anna to rescue them.
Frozen 2 is set three years after the events in the first movie, and it will introduce a new character named Lieutenant Mattias. In a report via Entertainment Weekly, the character was trapped in the enchanted forest 30 years ago, and he knew the parents of Elsa and Anna.
So, are the parents also trapped in the enchanted forest? That remains a question for now, and it's yet to be seen if the flashbacks of the parents will lead to a happy ending for the whole family. But, that question will be answered soon as Frozen 2 will hit the big screen on November 22, 2019.
