Out of 17 dramas on CBS, S.W.A.T. falls in the network's ninth spot for demo rating. And for a series that has just begun its course on the platform, this is truly a remarkable spot, which is why it is not surprising that the Shemar Moore-led cop drama series was renewed even before its second season finale.
In May 2019, TV Line has learned that CBS confirmed the show's return for a new season. So, it will not be that big of a problem when the second season would leave huge cliffhangers.
While the previous installments hinted that something big would happen at the end of S.W.A.T. Season 2, it wrapped things up in a "calm" way. And the only question that has been left for the viewers is where Hondo and Darryl would go as they seemingly went away to an undisclosed location.
Fortunately for the fans though, the new season is finally arriving. So, if there are still a few unanswered questions left by the previous finale, then, it will be all cleared out soon.
According to Cartermatt, there are not enough hints or clues given for the new season's plot. But, thanks to the official synopsis that has been released recently as it has been revealed that Hondo will face a new set of challenges, which will not only focus on his career, but it will also involve his personal life.
The first episode of the S.W.A.T. Season 3 titled, Fire In The Sky, will already give the fans a glimpse to what kind of challenges Hondo would face this time. In terms of his personal life, Hondo is revealed to face his "estranged" father as he surprisingly moved back into town, specifically to his own home. Along with his father's comeback, he will also face challenges with Darryl as he now becomes the legal guardian of his minor "charge."
Aside from Hondo and the other characters' personal lives, it has also been revealed that Amy Farrington, who plays the role of Piper Lynch, will join the team in S.W.A.T. Season 3. As per Deadline, her arrival on the show's course as the newest series regular will also be introduced during the premiere. So, things will become more interesting and exciting when the show arrives on CBS.
S.W.A.T. Season 3 will air every Wednesday starting on October 2.
