Prodigal Son has hit the small screens, introducing a new king of drama led by Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal psychologist who claims he knows how killers think and how their minds work. Now in Episode 2, the show will try to keep viewers on board with its new offering.
"Bright jumps at the chance to help Arroyo (Lou Diamond Phillps) solve a quadruple homicide for the NYPD. As Bright slips into the mind of this serial killer, he finds himself dealing with the repercussions of seeing his father for the first time in years," Prodigal Son Episode 2 official synopsis read. "Tormented by the terrors of his childhood, Bright is faced with a question: are his dreams just nightmares or did they actually happen?"
In "Annihilator," fans are about to see Bright deal with the difficulty to see his father, Dr. Martin Whitely (Michael Sheen), once again. His dad is known for being a famous serial killer. His connection to his father is something that ignites him to be good at profiling other murderers.
However, it may never be an easy thing to do for Bright, knowing that it will continue to remind him about his dad. According to CarterMatt, in Prodigal Son Episode 2, fans are about to see more of him working with Arroyo on some other cases. However, he will try to understand more about himself and who he really wants to become in this position.
Meanwhile, according to the New York Post, Anthony Hopkins' unforgettable performance in the 1991 movie Silence of the Lambs as Hannibal Lecter overshadowed Prodigal Son. The show is said to borrow the film's playbook, but it lacks its "creepiness and horror" feels.
The publication saw it was too bad for Sheen, who plays Whitley, a cardiothoracic surgeon/serial killer called "The Surgeon," which is like Lecter's role in the movie. He was arrested in 1998, supposedly for killing about 23 victims. Now, he is in lavishly adorned cell complete with everything he needs inside a psychiatric hospital, where he still checks patients, while tethered to the wall with a rope around his waist.
As Bright once again meets his dad, he tries to lure his son by saying he can help him get inside the serial killers' head to make his job at the NYPD easier. Will he bite the bait? Find out in Prodigal Son Episode 2, "Annihilator," when it hits the small screens on Monday, Sept. 30, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
