Queen Elizabeth is the reigning monarch of all England. Her firstborn Prince Charles is next to the throne, and the Prince of Wales’ eldest son, Prince William, is second in line.
It is a given fact that when Queen Elizabeth passes away, Prince Charles will be King. If the Prince of Wales will pass away, Prince William will be the ruler of England, and so on. What the public is not aware of is what will happen to Kate Middleton if the Duke of Cambridge passes away before becoming king.
As it turns out, despite being the wife of Prince William, Kate Middleton will not be the queen of England if her husband dies before the coronation. The reason is quite understandable as the Duke of Cambridge has not been crowned for the title. Therefore, Kate is not eligible for the throne.
But, Kate Middleton will have a different title as either the Dowager Duchess of Cambridge or the Dowager Princess of Wales or depending on Prince William’s title at the time of his death. While Royal deaths are quite awkward to talk about, it is a very normal topic in the Royal world.
Ruling the whole of England is a very big deal, so obligations are already set in the Royal family in cases like death will occur. However, most people tend to forget about what will happen to the Royal spouses if the King, Prince, or Queen dies.
While Prince William won’t be king when Queen Elizabeth dies, he and Kate Middleton will become the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, inheriting the title from Prince Charles, who will be King when that time comes.
Prince William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, had the title Princess of Wales; so, he will also likely to become the new Prince of Wales. This title, however, will not be given to the Duke of Cambridge automatically. As for Kate Middleton, she could adopt the title Princess of Wales “as a tribute to the mother-in-law she never met.”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will have a busier schedule when Prince Charles would be king. “Harry was also William’s ‘spare’ for over 30 years and will continue to support his brother, father, and grandmother until George, Charlotte, and the new baby can take on royal duties,” MSN previously reported as per Cheat Sheet. “This ensures that ‘peripheral’ royals will not be supported by public funds and will need to make their own money.”
