A couple in Pennsylvania received the biggest surprise of their lives when they saw a huge snake in their backyard. The serpent had a "massive" bulge in its stomach that indicated it just swallowed its mystery meal.

The snake was, reportedly, eight-foot-long and weighed 18 pounds. The unidentified couple spotted it in the backyard of their residence earlier this month. According to Geek, the snake was identified to be a female python, and a huge bulge in its stomach was the meal it took earlier that it was trying to digest.

So, to have the overstuffed snake checked, the couple put it in a trashcan and brought it to a local pet shop to ask for help. The pet shop staff, on the other hand, immediately called in the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary to inform them about the lost snake.

After a few hours, the organization took the reptile. The rescue center checked the animal for any irregularities and performed an X-ray to determine what object or creature it swallowed. From here, they learned it was a possum.

"All evidence points to a possum, which is logical because both Pythons and possums are nocturnally active and the size matches up," the Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary announced on a Facebook post. They also explained she went out in the open to stretch in the sun that helped her digestive process.

Despite the scare, the snake catcher said they were pleased with what they saw. Forgotten Friends Reptile Sanctuary also praised the couple for bringing the snake and alerting the authorities about it. They said it was a courageous thing of them to do it, and the snake might not survive the cold climate in the night if it continued to wander around, per the New York Post.

Meanwhile, as the snake was found on National Taco Day, the reptile rescue clinic joked in a press release that, although snakes are known for eating a variety of things like birds, mammals, and reptiles, it has yet to see a python that eats tacos. "They have not been documented to eat tacos, at least not in any scientific journals that we are aware of," it said. Also, it has yet to determine the owner of the serpent.

The couple, who saw the snake in their backyard, revealed it was the third time that they saw the animal on the loose. The snake catcher also said that the animal was a pet.
