Succession season 2 finale aired on Sunday night, and it tied up the mysteries surrounding the so-called "blood sacrifice" offered to the Waystar Royco shareholders. The finale episode, titled "This Is Not For Tears," revealed that Logan Roy chose his son Kendall as the sacrifice.

In Succession season 2 finale, Logan needed a blood sacrifice from his inner circle to appease shareholders. He considered Greg and Tom as "too insignificant," and he eventually told his son, Kendall, he should be the one taking the fall.

Kendall agreed and accepted the decision, but only to betray Logan. At the press conference, he revealed the details of the cruise scandal, among other Waystar Royco secrets. Kendall then called his father as a "malignant presence," and "bully and liar."

Logan's reaction was calm while watching the announcement on TV, leading to speculations he knew all along Kendall would do that. Is it possible pair hatched a plot so Kendall could be the CEO, and Logan would have a reason to step down?

We saw Logan's wry smile while Kendall bashed him, and Logan also knew shareholders want him out. These are just some of the theories the two did hatch a plot. However, if Logan wanted out, he could've just resigned to appease shareholders. He shouldn't have his name dragged by his son.

As for Logan's smile, actor Brian Cox revealed why his character smiled in Succession season 2 finale. That smile, according to Cox, is a way of saying Kendall is finally doing what he needs to do to run the business. He also teased that his son is the heir apparent to Waystar Royco.

Meanwhile, in another related report, it has been confirmed earlier this year there will be Succession season 3. Succession is one of HBO's most successful shows, particularly when it comes to pop-culture attention. The series started under-the-radar but established its audience later on.

While the renewal status of Succession season 3 has been confirmed, the official release date of the upcoming installment remains unknown. That only makes sense since the second season has just concluded on Sunday, October 13.

Showrunner Jesse Armstrong also said the writers' room wouldn't convene for a while, though he teased it feels "quite soon." Therefore, cast and crew will be taking a break for a while before proceeding to the third season.

The first and second installment dropped in June 2018 and August 2019, respectively. If it follows the same timeline patter, then season 3 is likely to arrive within these months.
