The DNA of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo matches the evidence in the rape case filed by Kathryn Mayorga. However, Ronaldo's camp says it is already expected since there was a consensual relationship between the accused and the alleged rape victim. The lawyers of the Portuguese footballer also filed documents requesting the judge in Las Vegas to dismiss the lawsuit or to order closed-door settlement talks.
Until now, the Juventus superstar is haunted by the accusations made against him by a former teacher who claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo raped her ten years ago. The footballer was investigated but did not face any criminal charges for the case. Generally, the Associated Press does name people who claim they are victims of rape or sexual assault. However, Kathryn Mayorga gave her consent to be named through her lawyers.
The lawsuit that Mayorga's camp filed stemmed from a confidentiality agreement and a $375,000 hush-money payment that happened in 2010. Based on the document filed seeking for the dismissal of the case, Cristiano Ronaldo has always maintained that what happened was a consensual encounter. The lawyers representing Mayorga have not yet given their comments about the recent request from Ronaldo's camp.
Another document filed on Oct. 14 at the US District court requests the judge to order out of court talks to settle the lawsuit. Kathryn Mayorga alleges defamation, conspiracy, breach of contract, fraud, and coercion. Additionally, her lawyers would like to void the deal made in 2010 and collect $200,000 more from the Juventus superstar and acknowledge that their client received 375,000 in 2010.
According to Mayorga's camp, their client did not break the confidentiality agreement and accused Cristiano Ronaldo or his associates of giving consent about reports of it to be published in 2017 in various European publications. Ronaldo's camp claimed that the information was among the details stolen via electronic data hacking. Additionally, the Juventus superstar's lawyers claimed that Mayorga's lawsuit is just used to damage Ronaldo's reputation.
In 2018, Las Vegas police reinvestigated the rape allegation; however, no criminal charge was filed against Cristiano Ronaldo. The local prosecutor elected for the case stated there was not adequate evidence to take the 10 years old case to trial. The Juventus superstar is now 34 years old and is considered one of the richest athletes in the world.
Ronaldo is the team captain of Portugal's national team and plays for the Turin-based Italian soccer club Juventus. Kathryn Mayorga is now 36 years old and lives in the Las Vegas area.
