Tesla recently launched its latest solar roof tile intended for residential home use. The announcement is officially detailed on a blog post last Friday, as well as in a call with the media. Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk made the call with an additional explanation on its latest iteration to its next-generation roof and took some questions.

Tesla plans to start installations in the coming days. Still, Elon Musk reveals that several installations have already started, and it hopes to increase production to as many as 1000 new Tesla V3 Solar Roofs every week. The latest solar tiles from Tesla are designed to appear just like the customary roof tiles when installing on a residential home whole, also serving as solar panels to generate power. The company shares that even after three years of its announcement, it is still working on the solar roofs despite having performed trail installations with a couple of different iterations.

Version three is finally ready for the big time, while versions one and two are still being tinkered on reveals Musk. The official website of Tesla Solar roof now comes with a pricing estimator which includes $42,500 as the total price for the average 2,000 square-foot residential house, with 10 KW solar panels. Buyers can also key in their address and get a real-time estimate that includes local costs and incentives and add on Powerwalls.

According to Tesla CEO, the latest Tesla V3 Solar Roof will not make sense to someone who has a new roof because it is a roof integrated with solar power generation. He further explains that the company was able to come up with the latest version to achieve a price point that is less than the average cost of roofs and solar panels that homeowners usually adds on top of the roof. Additionally, Musk shares that although they were hiring and training specialized installers, the long-term plan is to tap any third-party contractors to do the installation.

Musk also reveals that tesla is now focused on trimming down the installation time of Tesla V3 Solar Roof. The CEO says that the ultimate goal is to install Tesla V3 Solar Roof much faster than similar roof shingles, which is a significant change from Tesla V2 Solar Roof. An earlier report suggests that Tesla has not performed many actual installations of its solar roofs despite the two years gap between the announcement and the date of the investigation conducted by CNBC.
